  • Kufri :  Kufri is a small hill station in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh state in India. It is located 20 km from the state capital Shimla on the National Highway No.22. The name Kufri is derived from the word kufr meaning “lake” in the local language.
  • It is the starting point of treks to Fagu, Shimla, Manali and Rewalsar. Kufri, along with Chail and Shimla forms the famous Golden Triangle of Himachal Pradesh. Yearly winter sports festival is held here in February, which is a major attraction for the tourists.

  • Green Valley :  At a distance of 8 km from Shimla Railway Station, 8 km from Shimla Old Bus Stand  and 7.5 km from Kufri, Green Valley lies on  National Highway 22, on the way to   Kufri from Shimla.
  • It is surrounded by verdant hills that are covered with dense forests of pine and deodar. Enjoy a breath-taking view here  as you look  around at a huge expanse of green forests.   • Mandi :  Often called the ‘Varanasi of Hills’, Mandi is a picturesque hill retreat nestled on the banks of River Beas in Himachal.   • Hadimba Devi Temple : The Hidimba Devi Temple in Manali. India is a significant religious site with a rich history and cultural significance. Maharaja Bahadur Singh built the temple in 1553 CE. The temple is a classic example of Pagoda-style architecture, with a unique combination of wooden craftsmanship and stone masonry.                                                                             (As per Scripture,  The temple is built around a cave where Hidimba Devi, a demoness from the Mahabharata, meditated after the war. Legend says that Hidimba fell in love with Bhima, one of the Pandava princes, and they had a son named Ghatotkacha.)

  • Shri Vashishtha Temple : The Vashisht Temple is said to be 4000 years old, dedicated to the great sage Guru Vashisht, who is one of the oldest and most revered Vedic sages. Vashisht had an ongoing animosity with the King Vishwamitra.
  • Legend has it that Vishwamitra killed all the children of Vashisht due to which the sage was left depressed. Vashisht was so deeply grief stricken that he attempted to end his life by jumping into a river but was saved by the river instead. Sage Vashisht settled at the village by the banks of the river Vipasha (the word Vipasha means freedom from bondage). The village was named Vashisht and the Vipasha River later came to be known as Beas River.

  • Atal Tunnel :  Atal Tunnel (also known as Rohtang Tunnel) is a highway tunnel built under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas on the Leh-Manali Highway in Himachal Pradesh, India.At a length of 9.02 km, it is the longest highway single-tube tunnel above 10,000 feet (3,048 m) in the world.

  • Name                                                                                                                                                                The tunnel was originally known as the Rohtang Tunnel, but was renamed in honor of former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on his birthday, December 25, 2019. 
  • Construction                                                                                                                                       The tunnel was built using the New Austrian tunneling method (NATM), which is based on the idea that the surrounding rock provides the main support for the tunnel. 
  • Features                                                                                                                                               The tunnel has a semi-transverse ventilation system, an emergency tunnel, and pollution sensors to monitor air quality. 
  • Benefits                                                                                                                                                The tunnel reduces the distance between Manali and Leh from 116 kilometers to 71 kilometers, and the travel time from 5–6 hours to about 2 hours. 
  • Inauguration                                                                                                                                    Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the tunnel on October 3, 2020.                                        

                

  • Sissu : Sissu is a small, picturesque village ( Manali to Sissu road distance near about 40 to 45 k.m  ) in the Lahaul Valley of Himachal Pradesh.                                                            
  • Location: Sissu is situated on the banks of the Chandra River, about 90 kilometers from Manali, on the Leh-Manali highway.                                                                                            
  • Elevation: Sissu is at an elevation of around 3,100 meters (10,170 feet) above sea level.   
  • Known for: Sissu is known for its natural beauty, including lush meadows, snow-capped mountains, and the Sissu Falls.                                                                                                      
  • Attractions: Sissu Falls is a popular attraction with a drop of about 50 meters. The falls are surrounded by greenery, including pine and willow trees. A trekking route leads to the bottom of the falls.                                                                                                                                             
  • History and culture: Sissu offers a rich history and warm local culture.

  • Rohtang Pass :  At an elevation of 13,054 ft, Rohtang Pass serves as the gateway to Lahaul and Spiti valleys in Himachal Pradesh. About 53 km from Manali, it connects Kullu valley with Lahaul and Spiti which in turn provide access to Leh. Besides Lahaul and Spiti, Rohtang Pass also serves as the gateway to Pangi and the valley of Leh. Like the Zojila Pass, Rohtang also serves as the gateway to Ladakh.
  • The name Rohtang means ‘ground of corpses’ due to the number of people who lost their lives trying to cross it. The Rohtang Pass is on the Pir Panjal Mountain Range of the Himalayas. The Rohtang Pass is a natural divide between the humid Kullu Valley, which has predominantly Hindu culture and the arid, high altitude Lahaul and Spiti Valleys which mainly has Buddhists.
  • Known for its scenic beauty, Rohtang Pass holds strategic importance for India. The Pass offers beautiful sights of glaciers, peaks, Lahaul Valley and the Chandra River. The twin peaks of Geypan are also visible from Rohtang. The pass is on the watershed between the water basins of the Chenab River and the Beas River.
